Thanksgiving Blessings

Thanksgiving Blessings

Thanksgiving#1

Wow--do we have a lot to be thankful for this year. We have our health. We are faithful to our God. We are starting a new business. WE HAVE A NEW BABY!!!!!
We were blessed to have two Thanksgivings this year. Our first was the week before Thanksgiving when my sister came from NYC. Brenna and John came down and we had a nice family Thanksgiving. I decorated for Xmas, so it was very Ho
liday-like at our house. Our second Thanksgiving was on Thanksgiving day. I cooked everything a second time because leftovers are just not pretty. :) We had Dik's dad and his step-mom, and her daughter, her husband and their three girls. We had the BEST time. My mom and Mimi came too. We had 11 people!!!! I loved it!!!, although I did have a cold that day and was not feeling 100%, but food and family makes you feel better. We had Xmas presents for the girls because we will not see them on Xmas. It was so fun to buy for nieces!!! That is a first for us!!
And now-------we are going to buy for a beautiful little granddaughter!!! We are all so in love. She is now one week old, barely weighs 6 pounds and melts your h
eart. She has beautiful black hair and dark brown eyes. We are praying that she will be adoptable because she has already fit perfectly in our family. I went to Abilene twice this week to visit her (and Brenna and John) and she is such a good baby. She eats and sleeps, eats and sleeps. I wish I could put a picture on to show you---but we can't do that---so just take my word for it---SHE IS BEAUTIFUL!!! :) Thank you to everyone who prayed that Brenna and John would get a special baby. All our prayers were answered.

Halloween night

Halloween 2008

We had a little murder mystery for Halloween. We had the best time but I am all worn out. Everyone played along so well and our murder victim did a wonderful job. We had it at a little log cabin we rented at a park. We ended up with 16 people. Dress was costume of your choice. We had some great ones!!! We had catered spaghetti and meatballs, focaccia bread and desserts. We had 9th street punch with dry ice to make the "magical effect'. Well the pictures speak for themselves. Here they are: Enjoy Our pumpkin carving contest!!!

What happened to Thanksgiving??

I know---why did I skip from Halloween to Christmas???? What happened to Thanksgiving?? Well for the first time ever, we are going to have a LARGE Thanksgiving. My sister is coming from NYC and with my mom here and Brenna and John coming, plus foster kids (IF THERE ARE ANY By THEN!!). Well---that all happens the week BEFORE Thanksgiving. I want the house to be festive and we probably will have Xmas since my sister will be here. THEN the next week we have Thanksgiving #2 at my house. Dik's dad and wife and her daughter, son-in-law and three granddaughters are all coming to the house for Thanksgiving!!! I am so so excited to have a reason to cook a big dinner again!! :) We definitely will have Xmas for the kids at that time. So---I am already pulling out Xmas decorations for the house. I am definitely excited!!! I just love Christmas!

Now--you know the "rest of the story" about why there is no Thanksgiving layout!!!

Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas!!! And Happy upcoming 2009!!!!

John Windham

JOHN WINDHAM
Their first date!!!
We are so. so blessed. We were blessed with a daughter and a son to raise and then God blessed us with another son- one that loves our daughter the way God intended for a man to love a woman. He loves God and it shows in his every day life; The way he does his job, the way he treats his wife, the way he treats his parents---he is truly a blessing to all those who know him. He loves children. I love children. Dik loves children. Collin loves children and Brenna loves children. I guess you could say we all adore children. He fits in our family like our five peas in a pod. We love John and we love everything he stands for. His parents did such a wonderful job in raising him. We cannot wait to see their children one day. Brenna and John will be such wonderful parents and they are both so, so beautiful and handsome---their kids will be gorgeous!!!! :) But before that happens, they are blessing foster children into their lives. What a unselfish act. We are all waiting for that phone to ring!!!!!

Oh---and HAPPY 24th Birthday, JOHN!!!!! (October 18). WE LOVE YOU!!!!

You're Gonna Miss This

There are so many things I miss. My kids are 25 and 21 and my daughter (25) is married. How fast time flies. But to narrow it down to one specific memory---I miss the little house at 2810 Newsom Circle. It was barely 1000 square feet, one bathroom, two bedrooms, kitchen, tiny living room and a den that used to be the garage. Both of my kids were born there. Oh---how I dreamed of getting out of that nasty little house. It was old and outdated.

But----I remember my daughter, then 3, walking with me (we only had one car)  as I went door to door selling Avon. Sometimes we would take the wagon. What a fun time for just the two of us. One Xmas she asked Mommy---how come Santa brings us Avon too??? She knew her stuff!!

I remember walking to the Hostess thrift store and buying outdated twinkies and cupcakes. What a bonding time.

I remember calling all of my friends when my husband got a wonderful job in pharmaceuticals and said "GUESS WHAT I BOUGHT TODAY". It was a trash can for our kitchen!!!! We had been married 4 years and that was my big purchase.

I remember going from garage sale to garage sale getting better furniture than what we had and being thrilled with it. I remember buying clothes in Country Club neighborhoods so that I would not have to spend the money on new clothes but bought really nice clothes "from the rich people". Little did I know then how truly rich I was. God had blessed me with everything I had ever dreamed of. I remember being in high school, a waitress, looking at a couple with two kids (a boy and girl) and stopping right there and praying--God--that is what I want some day. A husband, a boy and a girl. And what did God do?? He blessed me with exactly what I had asked for. God has blessed me far beyond what I could have ever imagined in life. And-----He continues to bless me.

Sure---I love my house now----I love my furniture that came from a real store. I love buying clothes (on sale :) ) at a real mall and buying things for my grown kids. But yes----I do miss those first few years.

Thank you God---for amazing days and a blessed 26 years.

Collin Andrew Pittman

Collin Andrew Pittman

was born March 12, 1988. Collin is the athlete in the family. He was born to have a ball in his hand. I think ball was probably his first word. Basketball, baseball but mostly----FOOTBALL. When he was little I did not want him to play because I was afraid he would get hurt. He said--No Mommy I will not ever play football (Age 3 probably). Soooooo first grade rolls around and he came home crying because there was a football team and he was not on it. So-----from 2nd grade on----FOOTBALL. What a great 10 years that was. We are so fortunate to have his football career on tape. From his first touchdown in 3rd grade to the sweat flinging off of his face from being hit in high school. Excitement, worry, fear, happiness, sadness, crying, screaming, laughing, cheering. We have had all the emotions. I would not trade a moment of them. He was good---real good. He runs a 4.5. He is fast. He was the running back of our 4A school. He was on the cover of the sports page 5 times his senior year and on the TV highlights 5 times. We miss football. But we are so so thankful that in ten years of playing (he took 5th grade off for those of you adding up 2nd grade on) he never was hurt. Sure--he turned an ankle, broke a finger or two--but nothing serious. Praise God.

But far beyond us being proud of Collin for sports---Collin is a Christian. A very faithful, strong Christian. He is a song leader at church. He smiles through every song. He loves God. We thank God for our son, Collin.
